Past tense verb
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم (And We gave them) is a past tense verb — the action already happened and is complete.
We translate it in past tense — "did", "created", "said", etc.
Verb form IV — causative
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم (And We gave them) uses form IV (أَفْعَلَ) — the أ at the start makes it causative ("to make someone do something").
We translate it as "to make [someone] do" or "to cause [action]".
Conjunction وَ (and)
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم (And We gave them) starts with وَ, the most common Arabic word — it means "and".

Sahih International
And We gave them clear proofs of the matter [of religion]. And they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.
