Verb form IV — causative
وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم (And We gave them) uses form IV (أَفْعَلَ) — the أ at the start makes it causative ("to make someone do something").
We translate it as "to make [someone] do" or "to cause [action]".

وَءَاتَيْنَـٰهُم (And We gave them) starts with وَ, the most common Arabic word — it means "and".
We add "and" to connect this to what came before.

Sahih International

And We gave them clear proofs of the matter [of religion]. And they did not differ except after knowledge had come to them - out of jealous animosity between themselves. Indeed, your Lord will judge between them on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which they used to differ.
